Elon Musk Unveils Tesla’s ‘Cybercab’: Production and Pricing Details Announced - Elon Musk has officially introduced Tesla's highly anticipated robot taxi, named "Cybercab," at an event at Warner Bros. Studios near Los Angeles. The event, titled "We, Robot," seemed to reference the iconic 2004 film "I, Robot." Musk announced that production for the Cybercab will commence in 2026, with pricing set to be under $30,000.

The announcement followed delays that left Tesla enthusiasts eagerly awaiting updates. An impressive 3.3 million viewers tuned into the live stream on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). "The autonomous future is here... We have 50 fully autonomous cars here tonight. You'll see Model Ys and the Cybercab. All driverless," Musk said.

Musk emphasized the importance of the Cybercab, explaining, “Think about the cumulative time that people spend in a car and the time they will get back that they can now spend on their books or watching a movie or doing work or whatever."

The Cybercab is designed to accommodate two passengers and features no pedals or steering wheel, making it a fully autonomous vehicle. Its futuristic design includes butterfly-like doors that open upwards, resembling something from a science fiction novel.

Musk highlighted the safety advantages of autonomous vehicles, suggesting they could be 10 to 20 times safer than those driven by humans and significantly cheaper to operate. He estimated that the cost to run the autonomous car would be about $0.20 per mile, compared to $1 per mile for city buses.

Tesla’s focus on the Cybercab aligns with Musk's long-standing commitment to automation, as he has consistently promised to deliver fully automated driverless cars to the market. With the introduction of the Cybercab, Tesla aims to enhance its ride-hailing service through its own app. Musk has discussed this ride-hailing initiative since 2019, although progress has been slow.

In addition, reports suggest that Musk plans to enable Tesla owners to earn extra income by offering rides through the app, with the company taking a commission of around 25-30%.
