WhatsApp to Introduce Contact Sync Feature for Linked Devices: What You Need to Know

WhatsApp is working on a new feature designed to improve contact management for users with multiple accounts. This upcoming feature, discovered in a beta version of the app, promises to enhance how users handle their address book across different devices.

The new contact sync feature will enable users to manage the synchronization of their contacts more effectively. Currently, users with multiple WhatsApp accounts, such as for work and personal use, may find it challenging to keep their contacts organized. The new feature aims to address this by allowing users to control how each contact is synced.

With this update, users will be able to turn contact syncing on or off for different accounts. If they prefer not to sync all contacts, WhatsApp will provide an option for manual syncing. This means users can choose to sync specific contacts individually rather than syncing their entire address book. Additionally, users will have the ability to unsync contacts that were previously synced, ensuring they can manage which contacts are visible on their connected devices.

In related news, WhatsApp is also working on enhancing privacy with a new passkey technology. This update, set to roll out in a future beta version, aims to replace traditional passwords with biometric authentication for securing chat backups. Passkeys will use biometric data such as fingerprints or facial recognition, eliminating the need for complex passwords and lengthy encryption keys.

Currently, WhatsApp offers end-to-end encryption for backups, which can be secured with custom passwords or a 64-digit encryption key. While these methods provide strong security, they can be cumbersome for users. The introduction of passkey technology will simplify backup management by allowing users to access their backups using the same biometric methods they use to unlock their devices.

This shift is expected to streamline the backup process and enhance security, making it easier for users to manage their WhatsApp backups without the hassle of remembering or managing passwords.
