After finding the allegation of gang rape in Odisha fake, the court has released all the four accused. The Special Fast Track Court has issued an order to the police to register an FIR against the accused woman. The incident is in May 2020. Then on the complaint of the woman, a case was registered at Sadar police station in Phulbani district. The court found that the woman had changed her statement several times. There was a contradiction in the statement recorded between the time of filing the FIR and section 164.

During the hearing, the woman has told the court that she has not been gang-raped. The fast-track special court judge had decided to release the four accused after the woman's latest statement in the courtroom and the entire case was processed. It has also issued an order to lodge an FIR under Section 193 of the IPC against the woman for filing false reports. In addition, the amount of financial assistance to the victim has also been stopped.

Defense counsel Bijay Patnaik told the media that after the May 2020 incident, a charge sheet has been filed against four accused by the Phoolbani police after recording a statement under Section 164 of the CRPC and medical treatment. In the middle of the hearing, the court realized that the woman had falsely accused the gang rape. On the other hand, the woman's lawyer Bijay Mohanty has said that the woman herself did not write the complaint. She had only signed it. She could not remember her earlier statement before the magistrate. It was on this basis that the court found a contradiction in her statement after which it has issued directions to release the four accused.
