New Delhi: The BJP has hit back at Congress's criticism of the appointment of a former Supreme Court judge as governor. The BJP has said that the Congress, while in power, caused 'irreparable damage' to the judiciary. For this, the BJP also reminded the Congress of those incidents when the party, while in power, had interfered in the judiciary.

In a tweet, BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia said, 'History lesson for Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi. In the desire for a committed judiciary, Indira Gandhi twice promoted the senior judges of the Supreme Court to others. Which caused irreparable damage to India and the judiciary. India did not get the best Chief Justice in the form of Justice HR Khanna, which it deserved. At the same time, in another tweet, he wrote that the "bitter past" of Congress. Congress leader Baharul Islam resigned from the Rajya Sabha and was made a High Court judge and after retirement was made a Supreme Court judge.

Bhatia further said that 'after this Bahrul Islam resigned from the Supreme Court to contest the Lok Sabha elections and later he was made a Rajya Sabha member'. The Congress on Sunday attacked the BJP-led central government over the appointment of retired Supreme Court judge S Abdul Nazeer as governor, terming the move as a "big threat" to the independence of the judiciary. After which the BJP retaliated and claimed to remind the Congress of the bitter past.
