Chennai: The panel probing the circumstances leading to the death of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has convicted her aide VK Sasikala in its report. The Justice A Arumughaswamy Commission of Inquiry, set up in 2016, in its concluding remarks said VK Sasikala's fault has to be found. The panel has recommended an inquiry in this regard. The Tamil Nadu government tabled in the Assembly reports of various commissions of inquiry probing the circumstances leading to Jayalalithaa's death and the 2018 police firing in Thoothukudi. The panel has also named Sasikala along with others.

The Justice Aruna Jagadeesan Commission of Inquiry has probed the police firing in Thoothukudi on anti-Sterlite protesters in 2018. 13 people were killed in this accident. The commission has blamed police officials for this. Earlier on August 27, the commission had submitted its report to CM MK Stalin explaining the circumstances leading to the hospitalisation of former All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) supremo Jayalalithaa. The report recommended that the DMK-led state government should conduct an inquiry against Sasikala, former chief secretary Ram Mohan Rao, former health minister C Vijayabaskar and a few others.

On this, the state cabinet discussed the 600-page report and decided that they will consult legal experts regarding the recommendations. In fact, the DMK had promised in its election manifesto that they would bring out the truth regarding Jayalalithaa's death. Jayalalithaa was admitted to Apollo Hospital in Chennai on September 22, 2016. She died on December 5 after undergoing treatment for nearly 75 days.
