Lucknow: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo and former Uttar Pradesh CM Mayawati has made her stand clear for the vice presidential election. Mayawati has announced her support for BJP-led NDA candidate Jagdeep Dhankhar. Mayawati herself tweeted about this. In her tweet, Mayawati wrote, "It is well known that it was due to the lack of consensus between the power and the opposition in the election for the highest president of the country that the election was finally held. Now, due to the same situation, the election for the post of Vice-President is also going to be held on 6th August.''

In another tweet, Mayawati wrote, "The BSP has decided to extend its support to Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar in the upcoming elections for the post of Vice-President in view of the larger public interest and also in its movement and which I am formally announcing today.'' Let us know that, in the vice-presidential election, Jagdeep Dhankhar is the NDA candidate, while the joint candidate of the opposition is Margaret Alva.

Dhankhar's election as vice-president and ex-officio Chairman of the Rajya Sabha is almost certain as the BJP is in majority in the electoral rolls of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. Out of the current strength of 780 MPs, the BJP alone has 394 MPs and this number is more than the majority mark of 390. With the term of incumbent Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu coming to an end on August 10, the elections are scheduled to be held on August 6 and the new Vice President will assume office on August 11.
