CHENNAI: The Chief Labour Commissioner (Central) has scheduled a conciliation meeting for January 2 in response to the strike that will be called on January 4 by the unions at the government-owned general insurance companies and the General Insurance Corporation of India Ltd (GIC Re).

Girish Khurana, National Convenor of the Joint Forum of Trade Unions and Associations (JFTU), announced the strike in opposition to the Ernst & Young (EY) recommendations about the restructuring of the five reinsurers' unilateral execution.

The Chairman-cum-Managing Directors of the five companies, the Joint Secretary of the Department of Financial Services, and Khurana have all been invited to the conciliatory meeting by the Chief Labour Commissioner.

For a very long time, the unions have been requesting a copy of the EY report. A copy of the PowerPoint presentation that the management had given them regarding the EY report.

In a previous letter to Suchita Gupta, Chairperson GIPSA and Chairman-cum-Managing Director, National Insurance, Khurana stated, "Bullet points given in PPT (PowerPoint presentation) reveal no specifics and we are unable to submit our viewpoints and suggestions in the matter."
