PM Modi's brother Sombhai said the marriage was forced on Modi by his parents when he was a teenager in keeping with the old orthodox tradition of fixing marriages between children and that it was never consummated as Modi walked out of the marriage soon after it was solemnised.

He said, Narendra Modi was 17, he was married and the girl he married was named Jashoda Ben. When he was married, Narendra Modi's wife was 15 years old and at that time education was not given as much importance and at an early age, the girl was married and the girl started to take home.

When Narendra Modi was married, Modi and his wife were minors and after 3 years of marriage with his wife, Narendra Modi had abandoned his wife. Three years later, he left his wife.

Sombhai further said, "Narendra Modi had decided to sacrifice his life on his country of India by sacrificing his worldly pleasures and that was one of the reasons why he sacrificed his wife and gave his life to the country."
