Every year, on the Tritiya Tithi of the Shukla Paksha of the Chaitra month, Ganagaur Puja is observed. On this day, married women fast and worship for the long life and happiness of their husbands. According to the Hindu calendar, this year the Tritiya Tithi of the Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month will commence at 5:32 PM on April 10th and conclude at 3:03 PM on April 11th. One unique aspect of this fast is that women observe it secretly. They do not inform their husbands about the fast and worship. This fast and worship are done without the knowledge of the husband. Unmarried girls also observe the Ganagaur fast and worship in the hope of finding an ideal life partner. This year, there are 3 auspicious yogas aligning on the day of Ganagaur.

Why Do Women Observe Ganagaur Fast and Worship Secretly?
According to mythological tales, once Goddess Parvati observed a fast and worship for Lord Shiva but didn't wish to disclose it to him. Despite Lord Shiva's efforts to know about it, Goddess Parvati remained silent on the matter. She wanted to observe the fast secretly. Hence, every year, women observe the Ganagaur fast and worship secretly from their husbands. They even refrain from offering the prasad (religious offering) to their husbands.

Ganagaur Puja
Ganagaur is associated with Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. 'Gana' means Shiva, and 'Gaur' refers to Gauri, another name for Parvati. Therefore, during this fast, worship is offered to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Worshiping Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati blesses women with unbroken marital bliss and a happy married life.
