New Delhi: Every year on October 27, Infantry Day is celebrated in the country and gratitude is expressed by remembering the stories of the bravery of the Army. The reason for this is that on this day in 1947, the soldiers of the Indian Army saved a large part of Kashmir, which is called the Sirmaur of India, from being captured by Pakistan.

In the nectar of independence, this Infantry Day becomes even more special. Because 75 years ago today, on October 27, the first such military action took place in independent India, in which the infantry showed its valour and played the most important role in the defence of the country. Let us tell you that from the security of the borders of the country, this division of the army has displayed tremendous bravery on different fronts.

Actually, after independence, Pakistan hatched a conspiracy to annex Kashmir. On 22 October 1947, Pakistan sent about 5000 tribals to infiltrate and capture Kashmir, at that time Maharaja Hari Singh, the then ruler of Kashmir, sought help from the Indian government. After this Maharaja Hari Singh signed the agreement on the accession of Jammu and Kashmir to India. Then an infantry contingent from the 1st Battalion of the Sikh Regiment of the Army was airlifted from Delhi to Srinagar. On October 27, 1947, Indian foot soldiers liberated Kashmir from the clutches of the tribals.

Let us tell you that this was the first military campaign of the Indian Army against foreign invaders in the history of independent India, which was carried out by the Infantry. Infantry Day is celebrated every year on 27 October in the country in memory of the great success in this campaign. Since only the infantry had a major contribution in this entire military campaign, it was decided to celebrate this day as a day to commemorate the bravery and courage of the infantry soldiers of the Indian Army.
