At the Gopinath temple in Vrindavan yesterday, widows played Holi in front of their Lord and painted themselves in the colours of his devotion. After a few years' pause due to the outbreak of Corona, they celebrated Holi again this time with full fun. The enthusiasm of the widowed mothers was expressing their happiness due to this Holi, which started in the afternoon under the aegis of Sulabh Hope Foundation, which started in the afternoon with flowers and colours.
Seeing the mothers dancing to the tune of the same Holi songs, it seemed as if they had left behind the dark yesterday of their past lives. Hundreds of kilos of colourful gulal were used along with several quintals of flowers in Holi. The Radha Gopinath temple premises, one of the Sapta temples of Vrindavan, witnessed the Holi festival of these flowers and gulal.
The priest Goswami of the same Radha Gopinath temple said that his temple has witnessed this divine ceremony. Bindeshwar Pathak, the mentor of the Sulabh Movement, said in a statement, "The share of widowed mothers in Holi marks a break from the orthodox tradition that was refusing to let a widow wear a colourful sari. This special festival is adding a new colour to the celebration of Holi in Braj which is famous among both Indian and foreign tourists. Celebrity master chef Vikas Khanna and his colleagues, who are present in the US, also supported the Holi event.''
