The young man was shot by criminals on May 23. The youth's brother had lodged a complaint against unidentified persons. Police officials said that when Chanda was being questioned, she was constantly changing her statements. From here, the suspicion of the police deepened. Finally, when questioned strictly, the wife confessed to the crime.

Chanda told the police that she had an affair with jitendra, a young man from the village. Their love affair was going on for seven years. However, there were obstacles between her husband and the family. Police said that for this reason, Chanda planned to kill Moushumi. She then traced the culprits with the help of her boyfriend.
