New Delhi: A petition was filed in the Supreme Court on Friday seeking legal recognition of same-sex marriage. The hearing was conducted by a bench headed by Chief Justice (CJI) DY Chandrachud. Meanwhile, the apex court has agreed to examine the matter of legalizing same-sex marriage. The apex court will decide whether same-sex marriage can be legalized or not.

The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Central Government and sought a reply. A notice has also been issued to the Attorney General. All have been asked to file a reply in four weeks. In fact, a gay couple living in Hyderabad has demanded in their petition that gay marriage should also be brought under the Special Marriage Act. On this, the Supreme Court said that the High Court is also hearing the matter. To this, advocate Sanjay Kishan Kaul said the matter has been pending in the Kerala High Court for two years. It is a matter of public interest because it is a matter of constitutional rights.

According to the report, advocate Mukul Rohatgi has said that this is an issue related to the Navatej and Puttuswamy judgment, which is related to rights. We are not going by the Hindu Marriage Act related to religion. That is why they are saying that this clear provision should be made in the Special Marriage Act. Two gay men Supriyo Chakraborty and Abhay Dang, who live in Hyderabad, have said in their petition that the right to marry a person of their choice should also be given to LGBTQ+ citizens. Supriyo and Abhay have been together for almost 10 years.
