Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold discussions with prominent leaders of political parties in Jammu and Kashmir but there are already reports that PDP chief and former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti will not attend the meeting. Mehbooba Mufti had earlier said that she had received a call from the Centre to attend the meeting in Delhi on June 24. Fourteen leaders of 8 political parties have been invited to the meeting, which will be chaired by PM Narendra Modi.

According to sources, the final decision on Mehbooba Mufti's presence will be taken after discussions with her party colleagues. Sources said Mehbooba Mufti may nominate former CM Farooq Abdullah to represent a group of seven parties of the National Conference in a meeting with Prime Minister Modi. The National Conference, PDP and Congress had said on Saturday that she will decide to attend the meeting in Delhi after discussions between their respective parties.

Meanwhile, BJP and Altaf Bukhari led party of Jammu and Kashmir have confirmed their involvement in the meeting. While the decision will be announced after discussions within the five - NCP, PDP, Congress, People's Conference and CPI (MA) - party. This will be the first such meeting since the Centre revoked the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and announced its bifurcation in the Union Territories in August 2019. Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other Union leaders are likely to participate in the meeting.
