New Delhi: The Supreme Court will hear a plea seeking a declaration of 'Ram Setu' as a national heritage after six weeks. The court has taken this decision after the appeal of the government. The Central Government has told the CJI bench that due to the absence of Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, the matter cannot be heard now, so the date of hearing should be complimented further. The Supreme Court accepted the government's appeal and said that it will be heard after six weeks. In fact, BJP leader and former Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy has demanded to declare 'Ram Setu' as a national heritage site. He has filed a petition before the court and appealed that the government should be directed in this regard.

Swamy said that in the last hearing too, the central government was asked to file its reply on this. But no response has been filed on this matter by the central government yet. Responding to Swamy's submissions, the counsel appearing for the government said, "Our reply is ready. Only instructions are left to be taken from the ministry.'' The Chief Justice of India (CJI) has said that 'You come ready for the hearing, we will hear this matter after 6 weeks.' After this, the petitioners will file their reply to the government's reply in 2 weeks.

Ram Setu is also known as Adams Bridge. It is a series of limestones between Pamban Island on the southeastern coast of Tamil Nadu and Mannar Island on the northwest coast of Sri Lanka. According to Ramayana, Lord Rama's monkey army built Ram Setu to rescue Mother Sita from Ravana's captivity. Earlier, during the hearing, Subramanian Swamy had said that he has won the first phase of the trial, in which the central government acknowledged the existence of Ram Setu. He had said that the concerned Union Minister had called a meeting in 2017 to consider his demand, but nothing happened after that.
