BENGALURU: Wipro GE Healthcare announced the opening of a new manufacturing plant here on Thursday, with an investment of over Rs 100 crore, under the government's production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme.
Wipro GE Medical Device Manufacturing Factory (MDM), a new 35,000-square-foot facility, will help India's medical device manufacturing industry grow even more.
"With the help of the government's PLI plan, Wipro GE Healthcare's new factory will help India's health ecosystem realise its true potential in tackling local and global concerns for healthcare providers," stated Azim Premji, Chairman of Wipro GE Healthcare and Chairman of Wipro Enterprises.
CT machines, cathlab equipment, ultrasound scanners, patient monitoring solutions, ECG machines, and ventilators are all manufactured within the factory, which is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It has automated testers for evaluating the functioning of medical gadgets.
The new greenfield site boosts the Electronics System Development and Maintenance (ESDM) sector, which is one of 15 medical device manufacturers licenced under the government's PLI scheme.
"We will continue to support the company's efforts to enhance the ESDM sector and provide a boost to the region's digital economy through our Karnataka Digital Economy Mission," stated C.N. Ashwath Narayan, State Minister of IT-Biotechnology, Higher Education, and Science & Technology.
