Nag Panchami: Panchami Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Sawan month is celebrated as Nag Panchami. Nag Panchami has been considered very important in other Puranas including Bhavishya Purana. According to the story, on this day, women worship Nag Devta as brother and ask him for the blessings and plead him to protect their family.

Why is Nag Panchami celebrated?

It is mentioned in the Puranas that when Lord Shiva churned the sea, poison came out of it and no one was ready to drink this poison. Then Lord Shiva took this poison in his throat. While Lord Shiva was drinking poison, a few drops of it went into the mouth of Vasuki, the snake of Lord Shiva and it is said that the snake caste had become poisonous since then. Therefore, to avoid snakebite, Nag Devta is worshipped and the festival of Nag Panchami is celebrated.
