Assam CM Says 'Ready for Talks But Do Not Encroach'

There has been tension on the border between Assam and Mizoram, the two north eastern states, for quite some time now. Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday said that there were some attacks in Mizoram area which is being investigated by mizoram police. He also said that there was no explosion in Assam area. 'We are not going to take even an inch of land from Mizoram,' the Assam CM said.

He also said that he is ready to discuss and resolve the border with Mizoram. CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said that he has written to the Mizoram CM that in today's situation, satellite photos should be taken on the border situation. In addition, we should observe complete peace along the border and hand it over to the Central Police Force.

The tension on the Assam-Mizoram border has once again escalated after the Mizoram police accused the Assam Police of damaging two temporary camps set up by mizoram policemen a few days ago. According to Mizoram Kolasib district administration, Mizoram policemen had set up three temporary camps in the troubled border area. While the Mizoram government accused Assam of damaging two of the three temporary camps, Assam Home Department officials said that the temporary camps were set up in the forest area on the Assam side.
