Noida: Two labourers lost their lives on the spot when a basement wall of a commercial building collapsed in Sector-2 of Sector-20 Kotwali area of Noida. One of them has been identified as Atun Das, a resident of West Bengal. While the other is yet to be identified. The labour contractor fled the spot along with a labourer after the incident. Building owner Gurpreet Singh is an NRI. He is living in America.

ADCP Ranvijay Singh has said that Sector-2 has a commercial building called A-35 Best Choice. There are also offices of many companies. Construction work was being carried out in the basement of the building. The contract was awarded to Rajan alias Raju. Raju was working with three labourers.  The work of tying the saree for the wall in the basement was being carried out around 8.00 pm on Monday. Suddenly the equal wall collapsed. In which 2 labourers were buried. The security guard started shouting when they heard the wall falling. He also informed the police. Police who rushed to the spot pulled the injured out from under the wall and take them to the hospital. Where the doctors declared them dead. One of them has been identified as Atun Das, a resident of West Bengal. He lived near Neo Hospital in Sector-50. Depository and other officials had reached the spot late in the night.

Contractor escaped from the spot instead of saving: Where it is learnt that the contractor fled instead of saving the labourers after the accident. They could have been saved if the contractor had immediately tried to remove the wounds. Police are trying to nab the absconding contractor and labour.
