New Delhi: The World Cooperation Economic Forum (WCopEF) has set its sights on creating 500 campus cooperatives within universities nationwide, aiming to engage young people in this endeavor. In a statement released on Saturday, WCopEF, in collaboration with the National Cooperative Union of India (NCUI) and the Confederation of NGOs of Rural India (CNRI), announced plans to establish and promote 'Campus Cooperatives' across various universities throughout the country.

As part of this initiative, WCopEF revealed its intention to establish a 'Campus Cooperative' at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in the capital city.

Dileep Sanghani, Founder of WCopEF, emphasized the importance of youth involvement in advancing the cooperative sector, stating, "There is a significant emphasis on the cooperative sector nationwide, but the active participation of young people is crucial for its progress."

Sanghani, who also serves as the Chairman of IFFCO and President of NCUI, suggested that Campus Cooperatives could serve as an effective means to attract talented youth to the sector and propel it to greater success.

Binod Anand, Executive President of WCopEF, elaborated on the initiative's objective, stating, "The primary aim is to enhance the self-sufficiency of university campuses."

According to Anand, campus cooperatives hold the potential to meet students' various needs, including food items, while simultaneously offering opportunities for students to develop business skills and leadership qualities. Moreover, they can facilitate direct access to farmers by bypassing intermediaries.

Anand, who also serves as a member of the government-appointed panel to strengthen the minimum support price (MSP) system, emphasized the multifaceted benefits of campus cooperatives.

WCopEF, comprised of leading experts in the cooperative sector, is dedicated to promoting the cooperative movement. The forum intends to advocate for the sector's interests and address pertinent issues with governments and stakeholders worldwide.
