Every year on April 21, there is a celebration known as World Creativity and Innovation Day to raise awareness of the value of creativity and innovation in all facets of human development. The day was established by a United Nations (UN) resolution and set on April 21 in 2018. Achieving the U.N.'s sustainable development goals requires both creativity and innovation. Although the two terms are frequently used interchangeably, creativity and innovation are separate ideas that cooperate to get the intended result.

The purpose of the day is to increase public awareness of the value of creativity and innovation in problem-solving and to promote both individual and group creative interdisciplinary thinking. A weeklong celebration of creativity and innovation is held from April 15 to 21.

World Creativity and Innovation Day history: The 25th of May 2001 saw the establishment of World Creativity and Innovation Day (WCID) in Toronto, Canada. Marci Segal, a Canadian, was the founder of the time. At the International Centre for Studies in Creativity in 1977, Segal was a student of creativity.

In order to emphasise the value of using creativity in problem-solving for all situations that may be relevant to achieving the 2015 Sustainable Development Goals, the United Nations decided on April 27, 2017, to designate April 21 as World Creativity and Innovation Day.

The United Nations calls on its member states to step up and incorporate cultural and creative sectors into their plans for economic development. "Innovation, creativity, and mass entrepreneurship can give new impetus to economic growth and job creation," according to the United Nations.
