In the ICC Cricket World Cup at Headingley Leeds, hosts England were beaten by Sri Lanka by 20 runs in a thrilling match yesterday.  Angelo Mathews (83*) helped Sri Lanka set a modest target of 233 runs for the hosts. But England lagged behind.

Batting first after winning the toss, recovering from a poor start, Sri Lanka scored 232 runs on 9 wickets in 50 overs. In reply, England's team was all out for 212 runs in 47 overs and this match was called by Sri Lanka for 20 runs. Malinga got 4 wickets.

Ben Stokes scored the most (82*) for England and, in addition to them, Joe Root contributed 57 runs. Dhananjay de Silva scored three and Isuru Udina smashed two wickets in addition to Lasith Malinga ' s four wickets for the visiting team . Nuwan Pradeep got one wicket. This is England's second defeat in the tournament. Also, let us tell you that the England team has never won any World Cup match against Sri Lanka after the 1999 World Cup. Yesterday they had a chance, but this time also the Sri Lankan team took a beating.
