World Hand Washing Day: Hygiene for all, IMC rolls out action

October 15 is Global Handwashing Day, a worldwide advocacy day committed to increasing consciousness and conception about the significance of hand-washing with soap as an effective and moderate way to prevent sicknesses and save lives.

The day marks a great significance in this Coronavirus pandemic time, giving a strong reminder for all that handwashing is one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of a virus. To hit the virus today and ensure better health outcomes beyond the pandemic, hand-washing or sanitization must be a priority for all now and in the future. All can celebrate Global Handwashing Day! All through the year!

It is in the context that Indore (Madhya Pradesh) “Swachhata Van” rolled out on World Hand Washing Day with noble action roll out. A Swachhata Van bought by Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) with aid from  United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and Water & Foundation was rolled out to bring in awareness about hand washing and prevention of coronavirus infection on World Hand Washing Day. 

Municipal commissioner Pratibha Pal flagged off the van. On this occasion, a team of Bhartiya Gramin Mahila Sangh staged Nukkad Natak for creating awareness about handwashing. Safety kit comprising of masks, sanitizers, and soap were also distributed to sanitization workers by the IMC. 

Pratibha Pal pointed out, “Handwashing has become extremely important during the current corona crisis. It is essential to make the public aware of the importance of handwashing. On the occasion of World Hand Washing Day, the Swachhata Van was launched which will encourage people to build up the habit of washing the hands as a routine exercise all through the coming years.

The van is also carrying 36000 soaps for distribution. Through the videos and campaigns on the LED screen installed in the van, the message of frequent hand washing during the Covid-19 period will be conveyed to the people for a week.
