New Delhi: Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla has expressed hope that the World Health Organization (WHO) will soon approve Biotech's Coronavirus vaccine Covaxin. Talking to presspersons in Bhubaneswar, Harshvardhan Shringla said that it is not an administrative or political process, but a technical process of WHO.
He said the Technical Committee will evaluate the submissions made by Bharat Biotech, which manufactures Covaxin. I believe WHO will approve the Covaxin as soon as they can. Praising India's nationwide vaccination campaign, the Foreign Secretary said, "In a few days, we will reach the one billion vaccination figures. We did it quite quickly. I'm sure people will be surprised that we vaccinated 25 million people in a day, which is equivalent to the entire population of Australia.''
The World Health Organization (WHO) said on Tuesday that a group of WHO experts next week to list (EUL) the coronavirus vaccine 'Covaxin' of Bharat Biotech. During this period, the risk/benefits of the vaccine will be assessed and a final decision on the approval will be taken thereafter. Earlier on October 5, WHO extended the decision to approve Covaxin for emergency use until next week.
