World Radiography Day 2022: Know History and Significance of the day

Every year on November 8, World Radiography Day is observed to honour the discovery of X-radiation, also known as X-rays. This day in 1895 saw the completion of German scientist Wilhelm Conrad Rontgen's discovery of X-radiation, or X-rays. For this accomplishment, he was awarded the first Nobel Prize in Physics in 1901.

Rontgen was a German mechanical engineer and physicist. His family relocated to Holland when he was three. When one of his teachers discovered a caricature of one of the teachers that had been done by someone else, he was expelled from high school in 1865.

History and Significance of World Radiography Day: The purpose of World Radiography Day is to increase public awareness of how radiography benefits patient care and the function that radiologists and radiological technologists fill in the medical field. By presenting an image, X-rays, MRI scans, etc. assist in identifying health-related issues.

Various national radiographers' associations and societies observe the day all throughout the world. Since 2007, the International Society of Radiologic Technologists and Radiographers has recognised November 8 as World Radiography Day.

The Madhya Pradesh Radiographers Association has been honouring this day in India since 1996, and Shivakant Vajpai, the association's secretary, proposed the topic.

Wilhelm Roentgen made the X-Ray discovery in 1895. He unintentionally found a novel electromagnetic wave in his lab that can pass through flesh but not through metals or bones. It is a fantastic invention that is applied to medicine. Later, he gave the unidentified electromagnetic wave the moniker "X-Ray."

In his laboratory, Wilhelm Roentgen was specifically working with a Cathode Ray tube. Near his table, he noticed a bright glow of crystals coming from a tube that houses a bulb with positive and negative electrodes. Roentgen emptied the air in the tube by applying a high voltage to the electrodes. With black paper, he covered the tube. He noticed a fresh, green fluorescent light coming from the cathode tube in the nearby substance as a result of this application. This led him to the conclusion that the tube emits a novel kind of phosphorescent light that can penetrate paper and cast shadows on solid objects. He gave it the moniker "X-Ray" because it can see through flesh and cast shadows of hard objects like bones. Since the invention of the X-ray occurred on November 8, this day is recognised annually as World Radiography Day.

On World radiography Day, we should honor radiologists and radiographers who sacrificed their lives by the side effects of X-Ray machines in the early years. It was because of their sacrifices that we get  new advancements in X-Ray machines and safer X-Ray machines. World radiography day 2022 is also celebrated to spread awareness about medical imaging.
