New Delhi: India's star wrestlers Bajrang Punia and Ravi Kumar have got the country an Olympic quota. In the World Wrestling Championships, Poonia got this quota to the country by reaching the semi-finals of 65 kg category and Ravi Kumar in 57 kg category. Both wrestlers, however, failed to make it to the finals. Bajrang was defeated by Kazakhstan Wrestler Dolat Niyazbekov while Ravi Kumar was defeated by Jovur of Russia. With this, India has won three Olympic quotas in the tournament so far.
The tense match, which lasted six minutes, ended the match at 9-9 but Niyazbekov scored the most four points in a match so he was declared the winner. Bajrang defeated North Korea's Sun Jong Chol 8-2 in the quarterfinal match. Poonia defeated Poland's Kiekowski Biykowski 9-2 in their first bout of the day, then entered the pre-quarterfinals. Even in the Round of 16, Bajrang had no difficulty in securing victory and defeated Slovakia's David Habat 3–0 and entered the quarter-finals.
