BANGALORE: On Tuesday, July 9, Chinese tech giant Xiaomi unveiled its electric vehicle SU7 in India, though it remains unclear when the car will be available for purchase. Alongside the SU7, Xiaomi introduced several other electronic products, including the Star-Redmi 13 5G.

The launch event also featured the Redmi Buds 5C, Xiaomi Robot Vacuum Cleaner X10, Xiaomi Pocket Power Bank 10000mAh, and Xiaomi Power Bank 4i 10000mAh.

While Xiaomi's Chinese counterparts like BYD and MG Motors have already entered the Indian market to tap into the growing demand for electric vehicles, the SU7 may compete with models like BYD's Seal, Hyundai's Ioniq 5, and Kia's EV6.

Xiaomi's decision to showcase the SU7 comes as US electric car manufacturer Tesla Inc. has yet to make a definitive move into the Indian market.

"The SU7 was brought to India solely for showcase purposes. It is not for sale in the Indian market," a Xiaomi representative stated at the event. The SU7, a sports sedan, marks Xiaomi's first foray into the electric car market.

Xiaomi's Electric Vehicle Aspirations
The SU7 has generated significant buzz globally and has enjoyed a successful debut in China. Under the leadership of Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun, the SU7 is priced under $30,000 (around Rs 25 lakh) for the base model, which is about $4,000 (Rs 3.3 lakh) cheaper than the base model of Tesla's Model 3 in China.

Resembling the Porsche Taycan, the Xiaomi SU7 costs significantly less, with the Taycan priced between $140,000 to $275,000 in China.

The SU7 measures 4,997mm in length, 1,963mm in width, and 1,455mm in height, with a 3,000mm wheelbase. As an electric vehicle, it includes a 105-liter front trunk ("Frunk") and a 517-liter traditional boot storage. It is available in two versions: one with a range of up to 668 km on a single charge and another with a range of up to 800 km.

The top-tier Xiaomi SU7 Max Performance variant features a 101 kWh battery with an estimated range of 800 km (CLTC). This model includes a dual-motor system generating 663 bhp and 838 Nm of torque, with a top speed of 265 km/h. Impressively, it can accelerate from 0 to 200 km/h in just 10.67 seconds.

The Xiaomi SU7 Max can provide an impressive 510 kilometers of range after just 15 minutes of charging. Even the standard SU7 model offers a 350-kilometer range boost in the same amount of time.
