New Delhi: Ever since Arvind Kejriwal became the CM of Delhi for the first time in 2013, he has been promising, 'I will clean the Yamuna, and I myself will take a dip with you.' But today, it is 10 years since he became CM. Now this information has come out that the AAP government has spent thousands of crores of rupees in the name of cleaning the Yamuna in Delhi, and this information has been given by the Kejriwal government's environment department in the assembly. At the same time, the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) says that the Yamuna water is still toxic. So the question arises: if the Yamuna is not clean, then where did that money go, which is said to have been spent on cleaning it?

According to the information given by the Environment Department of the Delhi Government, 6856.91 crore rupees were spent from the year 2017 to 2021 for the cleaning of the Yamuna. Despite spending more than Rs 1,000 crore per year on cleaning the river, the DPCC report shows that the Yamuna River in Delhi remains polluted throughout the year. According to a DPCC report released in February 2023, at the place where the river exits the city, faecal coliform was found 500 times more than normal in the river's water.

Let it be known that CM Arvind Kejriwal has made big promises about cleaning the Yamuna several times. Recently, in the budget for the year 2023–24, the Kejriwal government sanctioned 1028 crore rupees for the cleaning of the Yamuna. Even at this time, CM Kejriwal repeated his old promise and said that by the next elections, the Yamuna will be so clean that he will also take a dip in it. The Delhi government has been issuing date after date for the cleaning of the Yamuna for almost eight years. However, every year during Chhath Puja, the pictures of the Yamuna that come out show that the situation of the Yamuna is the same. Then the same question arises: when the Yamuna remains polluted all year round, where did these thousands of crores of rupees go?
