Yemen's Houthi rebels have claimed responsibility for a significant attack involving a substantial number of ballistic missiles and drones aimed at Israel. This assault has raised concerns about potential further attacks.

Earlier on Tuesday, Israel reported the successful interception of an unidentified "aerial target" over the Red Sea. The Israeli military has reassured that there was no danger to civilian populations.

The incident prompted air raid sirens in Eilat, a popular Red Sea tourist destination, causing residents to seek shelter.

Additionally, the Israeli military deployed the "Arrow" aerial defense system for the first time since the outbreak of the conflict with Hamas on October 7 to intercept a surface-to-surface missile aimed at Israeli territory in the Red Sea.

Yahya Saree, a spokesperson for the Houthi military, stated that this operation marked the third targeting of Israel and issued a warning of more strikes to follow until Israeli aggression ceases.

A senior Houthi official told AFP news agency earlier that they had dispatched drones toward southern Israel. Prime Minister of the Houthi government, Abdelaziz bin Habtour, asserted that these drones belonged to Yemen.

These incidents occur amidst rising regional tensions related to the Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza. On October 27, drones caused explosions in Egyptian Red Sea towns near the Israeli border, and Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs attributed this to Iran-backed Houthis launching drones and missiles with the intent of harming Israel.

Two days prior, Hamas, the governing group in the Gaza Strip, announced the launch of a rocket toward Eilat, which landed in an open field according to the Israeli military.

Furthermore, the U.S. military reported intercepting projectiles launched by Houthis toward Israel from a navy warship in the northern Red Sea.

Regional tensions have escalated since Hamas initiated a surprise attack inside Israel on October 7. Subsequently, Hezbollah engaged in intense cross-border exchanges of fire with Israel. Iran has denied any involvement in the Hamas attack.

Meanwhile, Israel has expanded its air and ground operations in the Gaza Strip over the past few days, which has been under continuous bombardment for more than three weeks.

Authorities in Gaza claim that over 8,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli air attacks, while Israeli authorities report a death toll exceeding 1,400 in Israel.
