Lucknow: The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh is soon going to take a big decision on giving scheduled caste reservations to 17 backward castes. For this, preparations are underway to take full legal action afresh. It is being told that the state government can pass a resolution to give reservation to these castes in the upcoming session of the assembly, which will be sent to the central government for passage by both houses of Parliament.
At the same time, it is also of the view that the Registrar General and Census Commissioner should correctly define the middle and all castes and notify all the states to include all their sub-castes in the purview of Scheduled Castes (SC). This is because these castes are already included in the SC list in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Rajasthan. In view of this, in various cases pending in the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court, the government has cancelled the notifications while presenting its side, so that there is no legal hurdle.
Nishad Party national president Sanjay Nishad said union minister A Narayana Swamy had sent a letter on July 26 expressing positive consent in this regard. Sanjay Nishad claims that before 1950, the Majhwar and Bhar castes used to get benefits due to being in the Scheduled Caste category, but in later years in Uttar Pradesh, these castes were put on the list of OBC castes. The castes being tried to be included in the SC include Kahar, Kashyap, Kewat, Mallah, Nishad, Kumhar, Prajapati, Dhivar, Bind, Bhar, Rajbhar, Dhiman, Batham, Turha, Godia, Manjhi and Machhua castes.
