Yogi govt achieves new green feat, plants 25.5 crore saplings in a day

Lucknow: In a series of efforts to fight climate change and reduce carbon emissions in Uttar Pradesh, 25.5 million saplings, or 25.5 crore saplings, were planted on Sunday (July 4, 2021). According to reports, the day-long tree plantation programme was held in 68,000 villages and 83,000 forest areas.

State government officials, volunteers, public representatives participated in the tree plantation programme. Social organizations plant peepal trees in Lucknow. According to the Uttar Pradesh government, the target of planting 25 crore saplings was achieved within 12 hours. India has set a target of bringing one-third of its land area within forest cover. UP CM Yogi Adityanath started the plantation programme 4 years ago. According to State Forest Minister Dara Singh Chauhan, forest cover in UP has increased by more than 3 per cent, while the national average is 2.89 per cent.

Senior state forest department official Manoj Singh said, "We are committed to increase forest cover in Uttar Pradesh by more than 15 per cent. The target has been fixed for the next 5 years. More than 100 million saplings have been planted under today's plantation drive."
