SEOUL: South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol's approval rating remained at 48.0 percent, unchanged from the previous week, according to a new poll released on Monday.
Yoon's approval rating fell below 50 percent last week for the first time since taking office last month.
The President, who spent decades as a prosecutor, was recently faced criticism for appointing too many former and current prosecutors to key government positions, including the head of the Financial Supervisory Service.
According to a new Realmeter poll, the negative assessment of Yoon's handling of state affairs increased by 1.2 percentage points to 45.4 percent. People's support for the ruling conservative People Power Party fell 0.5 percentage points last week to 46.8 percent.
The Democratic Party, the main liberal opposition party, increased its approval rating by 0.2 percentage points to 39.4 percent.
Last week, the minor progressive Justice Party received 3.4% of the vote, a 0.2 percentage point decrease from the previous week.
