How and where did Shri Ganesha originate?
There is a belief about the origin of Lord Ganesha. His origin is believed to be of Dodital place, about 23 kilometres from Sangam Chitti in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. This is also mentioned in the Skanda Purana. This is where Mother Parvati used to come for a bath. Once Mother Parvati had made a statue with her Ubtan at the time of bathing and then put her life in it. This is how Shri Ganesha was born. Today, the temple of Mother Parvati is also built at this place.
