CHANDIGARH: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Friday, February 17,  said the heroic acts of Brigadier Kuldeep Singh Chandpuri to protect the nation's unity and integrity, would forever inspire young people to give selfless service to the country.

The CM, while addressing a crowd after inaugurating the statue of Brigadier Kuldeep Singh Chandpuri at Chandpur Rurki in SBS Nagar, said the war hero of 1971 Indo-Pak war had played a vanguard role in scripting the victory of the country against Pakistan.

He said,  Punjabis were instrumental in the national freedom war by offering the ultimate sacrifice. Mann added that the Punjabis are also prominent for making numerous sacrifices to uphold the nation's freedom.

He said, heroic souls carry out their duties despite sweltering heat and bone-chilling cold to make sure that people can sleep soundly at night in their houses.

He recalled that how, in 1971, Pakistan had viewed Brigadier Chandpuri's company of barely 120 soldiers as a soft target to invade India from Longewala.

Despite the fact that the odds were not in India's favour Brigadier Chandpuri's valour and gallantry guided the nation to victory, he said.

The Chief Minister asserted that the government is determined to create the kind of society that these great martyrs had in mind. According to him, the state's residents are receiving high-quality medical care from 500 Aam Aadmi clinics.

The Chief Minister said that the Schools of Eminence have been set for imparting quality education to the students so as to enable them to compete with their convent-educated peers.

The Chief Minister said that 87% of households in Punjab are getting free electricity due to the efforts of the government. In the same way, he said efforts are afoot to provide employment to the youth of state.

The CMr also announced that Kandi canal will be soon made operational to facilitate the farmers of the region.
