KIEV: Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, and Rishi Sunak, the prime minister of the United Kingdom, spoke on the phone about Kiev's "multifaceted defence support."
Zelensky said in a social media post that "we talked about assistance in enduring the winter months" during the call on Thursday.
The President said that he and Sunak both supported the continuance of the "grain deal" and reached a consensus on stances regarding crucial foreign issues.
On his part, the British Prime Minister said that "we will deliver a further 1,000 surface-to-air missiles and more than 25,000 severe cold winter kits" in a tweet..
The two leaders later agreed, according to a statement from Downing Street, that "any Russian withdrawal from the occupied city of Kherson would demonstrate strong progress for the Ukrainian forces and reinforce the weakness of Russia's military offensive, but it was right to continue to exercise caution until the Ukrainian flag was raised over the city."
Zelensky also set out how UK military support is defending crucial energy infrastructure and supporting Ukrainian troops to make progress on the battlefield against Putin's illegitimate invasion."
The two leaders also agreed that "Russia must be held accountable for its actions and prohibited from impeding the essential exports of Ukrainian grain and fertiliser to international markets."
