HONG KONG, CHINA: The ideal solution for Hong Kong's current anti-epidemic scenario, according to Carrie Lam, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), is "zero Covid-19."

The dynamic "zero infection" approach, Lam said, is in the public's interest since it protects public health and safety, adding that Hong Kong should stick to the anti-epidemic policy to buy time to improve vaccination rates and avoid undue strain on the country's hospitals.

She also announced a slew of anti-epidemic measures in response to the recent spike in Covid-19 cases. The existing social distancing measures will be prolonged until February 24, and religious venues and hair salons will be closed starting February 10.

Unvaccinated people will be barred from visiting a list of venues defined in the Prevention and Control of Disease (Requirements and Directions) (Business and Premises) Regulation as of February 24, according to the vaccine pass programme. Shopping malls, wet markets, and other marketplaces, supermarkets, department stores, religious venues, and hair salons will be added to this list.
