Zimbabwe has launched a national HIV/AIDS strategic plan that would govern resource allocation and HIV response implementation for the next five year, according to reports.
The strategic plan, which was launched on Monday, will run from 2021 to 2025 and will aid the country in eradicating AIDS by 2030, according to Munyaradzi Dhobbie, the Chief Director of the Ministry of Health and Child Care, who praised the National AIDS Council for its achievements in the ongoing fight against the global epidemic. "We have hit the 90-90-90 mark, and now we want to hit the 95-95-95 mark, which we can do if we work with the older males. The prevalence and mortality of HIV have decreased, and we are now trying to eradicate AIDS by 2030. We must remain vigilant "Dhobbie remarked.
By 2020, 90 percent of all persons living with HIV will know their HIV status, 90 percent of all people with confirmed HIV infection will receive sustained antiretroviral medication, and 90 percent of all people receiving antiretroviral therapy will have viral suppression, according to the 90-90-90 target.
Sophia Moniko, UNAIDS country director, stressed the importance of a paradigm shift in health financing for the country to meet its goals. "In order to eradicate AIDS, we must eliminate disparities. A paradigm shift in health financing is required. We need to put money into data systems "she stated.
