Harare: Former Zimbabwean cricket captain and renowned all-rounder, Heath Streak, has passed away at the age of 49 after battling liver cancer for the past few years. His wife, Nadine Streak, shared the heartbreaking news on Facebook.

Nadine Streak shared, "In the early hours of Sunday, September 3, 2023, the love of my life and the father of our beautiful children peacefully departed from his home, where he had chosen to spend his final days, surrounded by family and close loved ones. He was enveloped in love and tranquility as he embarked on his journey beyond this world. You did not walk away from the pitch alone, Streaky. Our souls are forever intertwined until we reunite."

Heath Streak made his debut for the Zimbabwean cricket team in 1993 and continued to represent his country until 2005. In his illustrious career, he played 65 Test matches, amassing 216 wickets and scoring 1,990 runs. In One Day Internationals (ODIs), Streak took 239 wickets and contributed 2,943 runs. He also held the captaincy for Zimbabwe in 21 Test matches and 68 ODIs. Known for his exceptional outswing bowling, Streak was globally recognized as one of the premier all-rounders of his time. His powerful lower-order batting frequently rescued Zimbabwe in challenging situations. Streak also proudly represented his country in three World Cup tournaments.

Heath Streak holds the distinction of being the sole Zimbabwean cricketer to achieve the impressive feat of 100 Test wickets and 1000 Test runs. Furthermore, he stands alone as the only player from Zimbabwe to accumulate 2000 runs and secure 200 wickets in ODIs. Following his playing career, Streak transitioned into coaching roles, assuming leadership positions with the Zimbabwean and Bangladeshi national teams, among others.
