The Supreme Court of India, today rejected the plea for urgent hearing to postpone Union Budget; so it seems that the attempt for postponement of budget will go in vain, as the court verdict is not likely to come early enough to put off the budget dates.  

A bench of Supreme court refused to hear the appeal for hearing on the issue of postponement of union budget scheduled on February 1.

The bench headed by CJI J S Khehar took this decision on the plea filed by an advocate M L Sharma, arguing that, the putting of budget during the election period will affect the poll results in favour of the ruling party at the center.

The Chief Justice J S Khehar said, "There is no urgency in it. We will lay down the law when this petition comes up,".

Advocate Manoharlal Sharma’s PIL has one more request also to give direction to strip BJP of its election symbol ‘lotus’ due to alleged violation of the model code of conduct which came into effect after declaration of assembly polls in five states. Therefore, verdict on this issue will also be delayed.
