The VIVO IPL 2017's first qualifier will be played between the team who are at top two positions in points table i.e Mumbai Indians and Rising Pune Supergiants. The match is scheduled to be played at Mumbai's Wankhede stadium. The winning team of this match will be the first team to make their place in IPL 2017 final.

The team who will lose in the match will get another chance to make their place in the final by competing with the eliminator's winning team. The Eliminator match will be played between Kolkata Knight Riders vs Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 19.

The RPS had joined IPL last year and have reached to the playoff for the first time.
