A bunch of senior executives of iPhone makers Apple held deliberation with the Finance Ministry over duty concessions in India. But sources assuming that this gathering not proved to be as good for the US-based Technology Giant Apple as the Indian Revenue Department has rejected the demands made by Apple.
According to sources, the wish list has been discussed in the meeting, which was attended by key executives of the company. Apple India has sought concessions, including duty exemption on manufacturing and repair units, components, capital equipment. It also sought relaxations for consumables for smartphone manufacturing and service or repair for 15 years as it plans to set up a manufacturing unit in India. These concessions would help the company get component makers to set up units in the country as it cannot source inputs locally.
India is moderately becoming smartphone manufacturing hub, and finance department feels uneasy in giving concession to a particular company.
