Abul Kalam Azad who was an Indian scholar and first education prime minister of India has its 58th birth anniversary on 11 November. The great leader was born in year 1888 and was also one of the leading personalities in India struggle for freedom.

Apart from great leadership qualities he had many talents. He was a known poet, writer and journalist too. He used to write poetry in Urdu language and Ghubar-e-Khatir is one of the important writing works of him. He was known as one of the best Urdu writers of 20th century.

He gained popularity when he became the leader of khilafat movement where he also came close to the Mahatma Gandhi. After which he started working and supporting him in various movements.

He was the one who at the age of 35 became the president of Indian National Congress. Because of his contribution towards India his birth anniversary is celebrated as 'National Education day.' He is also the leader who was awarded the country highest civilian award Bharat Ratan.

On his birth anniversary here are some unknown facts which are not known to most of us....

1. The full and real name of leader is Abul Kalam Ghulam Muhiyuddin and he is popularly known with name Maulana Azad.

2. His pen name was Azad which means free.

3. He used to write poetry in Urdu language and he also wrote many treaties on religion and philosophy.

4. He was a great journalist due to which he gained popularity.

5. He was also the supporter of civil disobedience movement and also protested against Rowlatt act.

6. Though he was a Muslim but he too protested when Pakistan became a individual country.
