Manohar Parrikar’s statement has angered West Bengal Cheif Minister Mamata Banerjee after which she wrote a two page letter to him. She said "My complaint was not against the army. It was against your government and the government policy, as they act under your directions. We have great respect for their nationalism and professionalism,"

Banerjee was also unhappy when Parrikar's letter was released in the media. Hitting back at him he said "Your general observations about political parties and politicians to have the luxury of making wild and unsubstantiated allegations may be apt for your party, but we do not belong to that group,"

This all happened when Parrikar wrote letter to her in which he said her allegation on army can "adversely" impact the morale of the armed forces.
