Gukesh won first Chesable Sunway Formentera Open 2022 chess tournament

Indian Grandmaster (GM) D Gukesh has achieved success by winning the first Chesable Sunway Formentera Open 2022 chess tournament here on Sunday. This is said to be Gukesh's third consecutive title win. He had completed a hat-trick of titles here after winning the La Roda and Menorca Open in recent weeks.  

The 15-year-old played out a draw with Armenia's GM Hike M Martyrosian in the final round and has won the title with a total of 8 points. According to the reports, he has defeated second seed K. Shashikiran in the ninth round, Gukesh, who was unbeaten for 9 stages, has scored 16 ELO points thanks to his performance here. He has now reached number 64 in the world rankings. Let us know that Gukesh has held Shashikiran's top-ranked Jaime Santos Latasa, and third-ranked Shant Sargisan (Armenia) to a draw. Sasikiran (ELO 2650) has to settle for the ninth position with 5.5 points.

Earlier, it was reported that the team of the chess Olympiad has been announced yesterday and many of the players involved are currently engaged in preparing themselves for the world-class tournament. After 4 rounds of the ongoing Formanta International Chess in Spain, India's D Gukesh and Krishnan Sasikiran are currently on a joint lead by showing great performances.  

D Gukesh, who has been placed in the Indian B team, has scored  3.5 points with three wins and 1 draw and the live rating of Gukesh has reached 2665. Gukesh has so far beaten Canada's Dukik Zachari, Iran's Alinseb Mobina, and Spain's Jose Ferrando. While the top-ranked has played out a draw with Spain's Jaime Santos Latasa.   Let us tell you that 15-year-old Gukesh, who is currently ranked 77th in the world's top 100, is the youngest player. Grand Master Krishnan Sasikiran, who is part of India's A team, is also on 3.5 points with 3 wins and 1 draw and was running on a joint lead. In these 10 rounds, 54 players from 20 countries are going to take part.
