31 candidate contest in RR Nagar, SIRA constituency: Karnataka bypolls

In Karnataka bypolls for two constituencies RR Nagar and SIRA,the last date to withdraw the nomination was over. The constituencies are left with 31 candidates to contest. A total of six candidates withdrew from the contest on Monday.

RR Nagar constituency is likely to showcase a direct contest between BJP candidate N Muniratna and Congress’ H Kusuma wife of Late Ravi IAS, will have 16 candidates in the contest that including JDS candidate V Krishnamurthy. An independent candidate named Muniratna as of BJP candidate, is one  among the four candidates who has withdrawn the nomination from the contest on Monday. The other three who withdrew their nominations are Muniratnamma, Anandan C, and R Kumar.

Sira Constituency is to show a three-cornered contest between the ruling BJP, Congress and the JDS has 15 candidates in the contest. BJP is working hard for its first time win in SIRA whereas Congress is confident of making a comeback of losing it by around 10,000 votes in 2018 elections. JDS hopes for sympathy vote to retain the seat.

The bypoll in SIRA constituency was mandated after JDS MLA B Sathyanarayana’s died. The regional  party JDS has fielded Sathyanarayana's wife Ammajamma as its candidate against BJP’s Dr CM Rajesh Gowda and Congress’ TB Jayachandra. BJP is copnfiedent of winning RR Nagar by a margin of atleast 40000 votes and is working hard by appointing its ministers and BJP state vice-president to look after election campaign is SIRA constituency.
