Lucknow: Samajwadi Party (SP) national president and former CM Akhilesh Yadav met uncle Shivpal Yadav on Thursday in view of the upcoming assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. The two leaders are believed to be in talks over the alliance. In fact, Akhilesh Yadav is constantly appealing to smaller parties to come with him. The meeting assumes significance as Shivpal Yadav had been planning to hold a meeting with his party Progressive Samajwadi Party (PRASP) leaders for the past two days to resume his rath yatra in January. His people were asking to be prepared to contest elections. As soon as Akhilesh Yadav got wind of it, he himself reached uncle Shivpal's residence. Shivpal Yadav is the younger brother of Mulayam Singh Yadav. He was counted among the top leaders of the SP. Shivpal Yadav was also the leader of the opposition under Mayawati's rule in 2007. However, the rift between Akhilesh Yadav and Shivpal Yadav had widened during the 2017 assembly elections. Shivpal Yadav had then announced the formation of a new party. In October 2018, Shivpal Yadav announced to form PSP. Shivpal Yadav had also fielded candidates from his party in Uttar Pradesh in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
