SHILLONG: Meghalaya Police is on high alert after receiving intelligence inputs regarding possible activities of 'jihadis' along the border with Bangladesh and a strict vigil is being maintained in the adjoining areas. DGP LR Bishnoi told reporters on Thursday that the police have received information about possible activities of 'jihadis' near the border. He said on the sidelines of an event, 'After receiving inputs regarding jihadis, we are on alert about their possible movement in important areas, especially near the Bangladesh border.' Bishnoi flagged off BSF's bike rally from Shillong to Delhi on the occasion of 75 years of India's independence. The rally will culminate on September 16, passing through seven states - Meghalaya, Assam, West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, UP and Delhi. At the same time, action is going on against madrassas in Meghalaya's neighbouring state of Assam on charges of connection with terrorism. On Thursday also a madrasa in Bongaigaon was demolished. On Wednesday, the official had informed that "jihadi activities" were allegedly conducted in the madrassa. The official said that bulldozers were called to demolish the two-storey Kabayatari Ma Arif madrasa located in the Jogighopa area of the district.
