New Delhi: The health department in West Bengal has canceled the leave of all its employees and officials in view of the increasing number of coronavirus cases. In a notification, the state government has said that if required, officers and health department employees will have to come on holidays and currently do daily duty. According to an order issued by the Bengal government, "Various departments and offices have an essential role to play in providing necessary services and all such offices will remain open in public interest. Establishments that are providing essential services will continue to function normally till further orders." According to a notice issued by the state government, "50 percent will not be applicable to this department pursuant to the presence of employees. All officers and employees are directed to be present in the office all day and also on holidays if necessary." Bengal recorded 9819 new cases of coronavirus infection on Tuesday, the highest number of days so far. With this, the total number of infected people in the state has increased to 6,78,172. The number of new infections has more than doubled in a day since April 13. At least 46 more patients died, with the total death toll increasing to 10,652.
