Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Congress unit has got a new president. The party has handed over the reins of UP to its senior leader Brijlal Khabri. The special thing is that after facing a humiliating defeat in the 2022 assembly elections, Congress demanded the resignation of Ajay Kumar Lallu. At the same time, if you look at the record of the new president, he has also forfeited his stake in the last two elections. According to media reports, statistics show that Brijlal Khabri was badly defeated in the 2022 and 2017 assembly elections. In the last election, he was among the 97 per cent of candidates whose residues were forfeited. In fact, if a candidate is unable to get even 16 per cent of the total votes cast, his stake is forfeited. In the 2022 elections, Khabri was in the electoral fray from Mehrauni's seat. Then only 4,344 votes came into his account. This was 1.29 per cent of the total voting. In March, after being defeated in the UP elections, the then Congress president Lallu had taken responsibility for the party's defeat and resigned. Lallu was defeated from Tumkuhi's seat. The special thing is that the party had to face a crushing defeat in all five states. Following this, interim president Sonia Gandhi sought resignations from the presidents of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Goa and Manipur units.
