Chennai: Waterlogging was reported in numerous districts of Chennai on Saturday as a result of continuous and severe rain over the previous several days. Coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal are expected to see strong to heavy rainfall over the next 24 hours, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). "A cyclonic circulation lies over the southwest Bay of Bengal coast of Sri Lanka at middle tropospheric level," according to Weather department. "Under its influence, fairly widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to heavy rainfall activity is very likely over the coast of Tamil Nadu during the next 24 hours and decreases thereafter." MK Stalin, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, assessed the waterlogging issue earlier on Friday and assured the people that the problem will be resolved. Stalin, who accompanied municipality officials to waterlogged areas in Tenampet, Chennai, said, "When I arrived in Chennai from Trichy at midnight yesterday, I began reviewing the rain situation in the control room of the Ripon Building, where Chennai corporation officials were monitoring the situation. Chennai's waterlogging problems would be rectified by this evening." On Friday morning, people in T. Nagar found themselves in knee-deep water. Some waterlogged roads were also closed while they were being cleared. People were also seen putting sandbags outside their homes to keep rain out.
